The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) made the dream of a Habitat state organization a reality. Their unwavering support since 2004 helped build a solid foundation for Habitat for Humanity of Ohio. The partnership with OCCH provides free office space to Habitat for Humanity of Ohio as well as access to OCCH's expertise in the areas of accounting, event planning and affordable housing.

To date, FirstEnergy has been a tremendous partner by providing over $18 million in house sponsorships to Ohio Habitat affiliates that helped finance the construction of over 400 Energy Star certified Habitat homes.

Habitat for Humanity of Ohio received $200,000 from The Home Depot Foundation to hire a Green Building Specialist. This initiative will increase the sustainability of Habitat homes across Ohio and lower the utility costs for our Habitat partner families to make homes more sustainable; more energy efficient; and healthier for the families! (i.e. low VOC and better air quality; no moisture or mold).

Owens Corning and Habitat for Humanity of Ohio worked together to coordinate the delivery of donated shingles from Owens Corning's Maryland plant to eight Habitat affiliates in Ohio. The donation will provide quality roofs for approximately 180 homes with a value of approximately $180,000. Owens Corning also covered the costs associated with delivering the shingles. In addition, Owens Corning made a contribution of $50,000 in funding to Habitat for Humanity of Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Development Grant is used to provide development and affordability subsidies to Habitat for Humanity affiliates and partner families. This important program creates an opportunity for families at or below 50% area median income to own homes at a 0% interest mortgage through government/community partnerships and volunteer labor. In 2008, the $200,000 grant leveraged more than $2 million and helped build 20 homes in 15 counties. This grant provided housing for 86 individuals, including 15 female heads of household. Since the inception of the grant in 2004, Habitat for Humanity of Ohio and the participating Habitat affiliates have leveraged over $6.4 million and helped house more than 260 people.

Local 18 of the International Union of Operating Engineers in conjunction with its Apprenticeship Program is a proud partner of Habitat for Humanity. Local 18 and its apprenticeship provided the skilled operators and the heavy equipment, transportation of and fuel to successfully do the site preparation including, grading, basements and crawl spaces, and driveway work associated with over 100 new habitat homes throughout Ohio.

Building Trades Institute (BTI) Building Trades Institute is a privately owned school committed to workforce development within the construction building trades. The Institute utilizes the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum and training certification process, and has modified traditional training delivery to allow for a quicker return on training dollar investment and seeks various state, local and federal workforce development funding to assist with training costs. Habitat for Humanity of Ohio is serving on the BTI Advisory Board and working with BTI on best practices related to building homes.

The American Institute of Architects has partnered with affiliates around Ohio to promote the building of green Habitat homes across the state. AIA Ohio architects can submit building plans for green homes, and the winning designs will be made available to all Habitat Ohio affiliates. The partnership promotes collaboration between the two organizations as well as creating more affordable and energy efficient home ideas to affiliates.
